October 15 – The God Who Restores
Psalm 71:20–21
"Though you have made me
see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths
of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort
me once more."
SITREP:
Have you ever wondered if you'd ever get back up again—if
what life has taken could ever be restored? **Psalm 71:20–21 delivers a veteran
warrior’s confidence: **God is not finished with you. **Even after the hardest
hits, He specializes in bringing His soldiers back to life.
Breaking Down the Verse:
·
"Though you have made me see troubles, many
and bitter," — The psalmist isn’t sugarcoating the fight. This walk of
faith includes pain, loss, and trials that cut deep.
·
"you will restore my life again;" —
Restoration isn’t a maybe—it’s a mission objective. God doesn’t leave His
people broken on the battlefield.
·
"from the depths of the earth you will
again bring me up." — **Even when you feel buried, forgotten, or
defeated—**God lifts. He resurrects. He brings back.
·
"You will increase my honor" — God
doesn’t just restore—He elevates. What the world saw as ruin, He turns into a
testimony.
·
"and comfort me once more." — He
doesn’t just rebuild your outer life—He heals your inner wounds. Comfort is
part of His redemption plan.
These verses are spoken by a battle-worn David—an aging
warrior reflecting on how many valleys he’s walked through. But he’s not
despairing—he’s declaring. And he’s doing it with confidence in a God
who always brings restoration after devastation.
What This Teaches a Soldier About Faith in the Fight:
Every warrior has scars—some visible, some buried deep under
layers of armor. Psalm 71:20–21 reminds every soldier of faith that those scars
are not your disqualification—they're the exact places God restores from.
For combat veterans, this truth runs close to the chest.
You’ve seen bitter trouble—some of it inflicted by others, some of it
self-inflicted, some simply by the weight of war and time.
You’ve been knocked down. Pushed to the edge. Maybe you’ve even felt buried.
But your Redeemer doesn’t leave you in the dirt.
He brings you up.
He breathes life back into dry lungs.
He restores what the enemy said was lost forever.
And He doesn't just rebuild you to where you were—He
strengthens your honor, renews your purpose, and comforts your soul in ways
only warriors understand.
You are not too far gone.
You are not too broken.
You are in the hands of the God who resurrects warriors.
ENDEX:
You’ve seen bitter battles—but that’s not where your story
ends. Soldier, lift your eyes from the ruins. The Commander who saw you through
the pain is the same one who will raise you back to your feet. You will rise.
You will be restored. And the scars you carry will shine with honor under His
banner.
AAR:
What deep wounds or dark seasons have made you doubt whether
restoration is still possible? Psalm 71:20–21 speaks straight to that
battlefield of belief: “Though you have made me see troubles, many and
bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will
again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once more.”
This isn’t denial of suffering—it’s defiance in the face of it. Your challenge:
Look back on where God has already brought you through. Then choose to believe that
the same hands that allowed the valley are also ready to lift you from it.
God Doesn't Just Bring You Through—He Raises You Higher
This isn’t a story of survival—it’s a promise of revival.
Psalm 71:20–21 acknowledges the depth of the hurt but anchors in the certainty
of God's lifting power. You've seen hard times, yes—but you're not stuck there.
God's not just restoring you to where you were—He's taking you beyond
it. He brings you up, increases your honor, and delivers comfort that doesn't
just soothe—it strengthens. So when the weight feels too heavy, remember this:
the lower you've gone, the more room there is for God to raise you. Stand firm.
He’s not finished. He’s just getting ready to elevate the next chapter.
