The Tanker’s Testament is a devotional blog for warriors—those who serve, have served, or support those in the fight. It’s a space for reflection, strength, and connection through Scripture. Each post shares a verse that speaks to the trials and victories of military life. This isn’t written by a scholar but by a Soldier, wrestling with faith and purpose beyond service. Your story matters. Your faith strengthens. Pick your verse. Tell your story. Answer the call.

September 6 – Perseverance Through Trials
Romans 8:18
"I consider that our
present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed
in us."
SITREP:
Have you ever fought through a brutal mission, wounded and
worn out, but kept moving because you knew the outcome would make every hardship
worth it? **Romans 8:18 lays down a critical truth for every soldier of faith:
the suffering you endure now doesn’t even register compared to the overwhelming
glory that’s coming.
Breaking Down the Verse:
"I consider that our present sufferings" —
Hardship is a reality—not a possibility. Suffering is part of the campaign.
"are not worth comparing" — The scale isn’t even
close. No matter how heavy the battle feels now, it can’t outweigh what’s
coming.
"with the glory that will be revealed in us." —
The victory is not just around us—it’s in us. God's transformation will be
undeniable and overwhelming.
Paul knew what he was talking about when he wrote this.
Beatings, imprisonments, betrayals, shipwrecks—he endured it all. Yet he boldly
declares that the suffering, real and intense as it is, doesn’t even deserve to
be compared to the coming reward.
How This Shapes a Soldier’s Faith:
Every warrior knows the weight of enduring under hardship.
Romans 8:18 reminds every soldier that today's wounds are nothing compared to
tomorrow’s glory.
For combat veterans, this truth is raw and real. You've felt
pain that words can’t capture. You've carried scars both seen and unseen.
But God’s promise cuts deeper than the pain: the suffering
is temporary—the glory is eternal.
You aren't suffering for nothing.
You aren't walking wounded into a meaningless future.
You are being shaped, refined, and prepared for something so
glorious that the pain will seem light and momentary by comparison.
God's glory is not just some distant dream—it's the solid,
unstoppable outcome of every faithful step you take now.
You may carry the scars into eternity—but they’ll shine as
evidence of battles fought and won under the banner of Christ.
ENDEX:
The weight you carry now will be nothing compared to the
victory you’re marching toward. Soldier, keep moving forward. The battle is
real, but so is the coming glory—and it is beyond anything you could imagine.
Hold the line. Endure the hardship. Because one day, your scars will shout
louder about God's victory than your wounds ever did about your suffering.
AAR:
What’s shaping your perspective—the pain of the moment or
the promise of what’s coming? Romans 8:18 hits like a battle briefing for the
soul: “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with
the glory that will be revealed in us.” Paul isn’t minimizing your
struggle—he’s magnifying your future. He’s telling you that what you’re
enduring now, no matter how intense, won’t even register next to what
God has planned. Your challenge: When you’re in the thick of it—physically,
emotionally, or spiritually—pause and refocus. Let eternity outweigh the pain.
Don’t lose vision in the smoke of today’s fight.
Your Pain Has an Expiration—Glory Doesn’t
In the middle of the mission, it’s easy to believe the
suffering is the whole story. But Romans 8:18 shatters that lie. The pain is temporary.
The glory? Eternal. You weren’t promised an easy road—you were promised
a victorious destination. And every scar you carry now will shine like armor
when His glory is revealed in you. So keep pressing forward. Don’t measure the
value of the fight by the weight of your wounds—measure it by the weight of
what’s coming. Because what’s ahead of you is greater than anything this world
can take from you. Hold the line. Glory is inbound.
Make your voice count—share what you’ve lived.
