Today's Mission

The War Within Needs More Than One Weapon

Every soldier knows you don’t step into battle with just one weapon. The fight inside — the one that lingers long after the uniform comes off — demands an arsenal of truth, not a single round of encouragement. That’s why The Tanker’s Testament isn’t one book. It’s a series — four volumes forged in the fire of military life and sharpened for the soul that refuses to quit. Each page speaks into the war every veteran, every fighter of the faith, carries within: guilt, fear, discipline, brotherhood, redemption. And now, the complete set is available in both Kindle and paperback . Whether you carry it on your device into the field or hold it in your hands at home, the Word is there for you — broken down, battle-tested, and ready for the next fight. 📖 Find the full series on Amazon here → The Tanker’s Testament Series This isn’t just a devotional. September 24 – Practicing Daily Obedience

Luke 9:23

"Then he said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’"

SITREP:

Have you ever accepted a mission knowing full well it would demand everything from you—your comfort, your plans, even your safety? **Luke 9:23 lays down the non-negotiable standard for every soldier of Christ: discipleship is not convenience—it’s daily sacrifice and relentless following of the Commander, no matter the cost.

Breaking Down the Verse:

"Then he said to them all:" — No exceptions. Every soldier in God’s ranks is called to the same standard of commitment.

"Whoever wants to be my disciple" — Desire alone isn’t enough—there’s a cost to real discipleship.

"must deny themselves" — Personal comfort, ego, and self-centered plans must be laid down. It's about mission-first living.

"and take up their cross daily" — This isn’t a one-time deal. Every day demands fresh surrender and fresh courage.

"and follow me." — Following isn't passive—it’s an active pursuit of Christ’s footsteps, wherever they lead.

When Jesus spoke these words, crosses weren’t religious symbols—they were instruments of brutal execution. He made it crystal clear: following Him was not a path of ease but a path of sacrifice, loyalty, and death to self.

How This Shapes a Soldier’s Faith:

On the battlefield, mission always comes before comfort. Luke 9:23 reminds every soldier that spiritual warfare demands the same all-in mindset: daily denial, daily discipline, daily following.

For combat veterans, this reality strikes home. You've lived missions that demanded giving up comfort, safety, even personal dreams. Faith demands the same—it is a daily call to set aside self and pick up whatever cross Christ places in your hands.

Following Christ isn’t about walking only when it’s easy—it’s about marching when it’s painful, standing when it’s costly, and obeying when everything inside you wants to quit.

You deny your pride.

You shoulder the weight of obedience.

You follow wherever the Commander leads—even when the destination looks like a battlefield.

True warriors aren’t those who seek the easiest path—they are those who answer the call, no matter the terrain.

ENDEX:

You weren’t called to a casual faith—you were called to a cross-bearing life. Soldier, deny the selfish voice inside you. Take up your cross, not just once but daily. Follow Christ like the warrior you are: committed, disciplined, relentless. The road will be hard. The burden will be real. But the victory belongs to those who stay in step with their Commander to the very end.

AAR:

What does following Jesus cost you—comfort, control, maybe even your own will? Luke 9:23 doesn’t soften the call: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” This isn’t a one-time choice—it’s a daily death to self. Real discipleship means surrendering your preferences, your pride, and your plans. The cross isn’t decoration—it’s a declaration that your life is no longer your own. Your challenge: Pinpoint one area where you’re still trying to lead instead of follow. Lay it down. Carry the cross, not just in theory—but in action.

Discipleship Starts With Daily Surrender

Jesus doesn’t call you to a convenient life—He calls you to a crucified one. Luke 9:23 is a marching order, not a suggestion. The cross isn’t about occasional sacrifice—it’s about total commitment. And not just in the big moments—in the everyday grind. Denying yourself means letting God’s mission outrank your comfort, your ego, your timeline. True followership costs something. But what you lose in control, you gain in eternal purpose. So wake up every day ready to carry the cross—not because it’s easy, but because He’s worth it. This is the life of a real disciple: all in, every day, no turning back.
