August 24 – Courage for the Battle
1 Chronicles
28:20
“Be strong and courageous, and
do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with
you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of
the temple of the Lord is finished.”
SITREP:
Ever been handed a mission that felt too big for your
shoulders? Maybe the job ahead of you isn't marked by danger, but by weight.
The weight of rebuilding after trauma. The pressure of stepping up as a leader,
husband, father, or mentor. The fatigue of carrying unseen burdens. That’s
exactly the situation Solomon was in when his father, David, gave him this
charge.
David wasn’t handing off a routine task—he was commissioning
his son to lead a nation spiritually by building God’s temple. The job was
massive. The expectations were even bigger. And Solomon, though chosen,
probably didn’t feel ready.
So David does what a seasoned warrior does for a young
soldier—he issues a field briefing laced with battlefield wisdom: Be strong. Be
courageous. Do the work. God is with you.
Breakdown of the Verse:
·
“Be strong and courageous…” – These
aren’t just pump-up words. This is the same phrase spoken to warriors headed
into combat. Strength is not about having no weakness—it’s about refusing to
give in to it. Courage is the deliberate act of pressing forward when
quitting would be easier.
·
“…and do the work.” – It’s not enough to
be brave. You have to build. Faith isn’t just a feeling—it’s action. Whatever
God has put in front of you, it requires your hands, your focus, and your
follow-through.
·
“Do not be afraid or discouraged…” – Fear
is the ambush. Discouragement is the slow bleed. Both take you out if left
unchecked. But David knew these enemies well—and he knew God was stronger
than both.
·
“For the Lord God, my God, is with you.”
– David isn’t just preaching—he’s testifying. “My God,” he says. The God
who brought him through the battlefield, the throne room, the cave, the sin,
the loss… is the same God who would walk with Solomon—and with you.
·
“He will not fail you or forsake you…” –
God doesn’t tap out. He doesn’t ghost you mid-mission. His presence is the
guarantee that the mission will not end in defeat.
How This Builds a Soldier’s Faith:
You’ve probably had to shift your fight—from enemies in
front of you to memories inside you. From holding a weapon to holding a family
together. From tactical readiness to emotional recovery. That transition is
hard. Lonely, even.
But God hasn’t left your side just because the battlefield
looks different.
This verse gives you standing orders:
·
Be strong—because you’re not strong
alone.
·
Be courageous—because fear doesn’t have
the final say.
·
Do the work—because the mission is still
in motion.
·
Trust His presence—because He’s never
once left a warrior behind.
David wasn’t handing down religious advice—he was handing
down combat-tested truth. A truth forged in battles, moral collapse,
repentance, and redemption. And now it’s yours to carry.
ENDEX:
1 Chronicles 28:20 is your mission continuity order: Don’t
quit. Don’t freeze. Don’t wait for someone else to carry your pack.
God is with you, not just to oversee—but to empower. He’s not calling you to
easy—He’s calling you to faithful.
So if you’re facing something too big, remember: you’re not
facing it alone. God is in this fight with you until the mission is done.
Stand up. Lock in. Do the work. The Builder of the
temple is also the Defender of your soul—and He won’t leave until the job is
complete.
AAR:
What’s your response when the mission ahead looks bigger
than your capacity? 1 Chronicles 28:20 isn’t a pep talk—it’s a transfer of
courage: “Be strong and courageous, and do the work… Do not be afraid or
discouraged, for the Lord God… is with you. He will not fail you or forsake
you.” David spoke this to Solomon, knowing the weight of building God’s
house would test him. But David didn’t hand over blueprints—he handed over confidence
in God’s presence. Your challenge: Whatever God’s called you to build—family,
ministry, leadership—don’t freeze in fear. Do the work. You’re not alone
in it.
The One Who Assigned You Will Stand Beside You
Every calling feels heavy when you’re carrying it without
faith. But 1 Chronicles 28:20 reminds you that God doesn’t issue assignments
and then walk away. He stays in the trenches with you. That project you’re
afraid to begin? That burden that feels too complex? He already sees the
end—and He’s not going anywhere. This kind of courage doesn’t come from feeling
capable. It comes from knowing He won’t fail you. So gear up. Step in.
Do the work. Your orders are backed by His presence, and that means the job will
be completed.
