March 9 – Do Not Fear the Unknown

John 14:27 – "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Reflection: In the face of uncertainty, hold on to the peace that only Christ provides. Fear has no power when you rest in Him.

These words were spoken by Jesus to His disciples during the Last Supper, just before His arrest and crucifixion. He knew that in a few short hours, their world would be turned upside down—their leader arrested, their brotherhood scattered, and their faith tested like never before. Yet, in the midst of this storm, Jesus promised them a peace that was not like the world’s peace—a peace that would sustain them through fear, persecution, and the unknown.

The Greek word for peace (eirēnē) in this verse signifies wholeness and tranquility—not the temporary calm the world offers, but a deep, unwavering confidence that God is in control.

This peace was not based on circumstances but on God’s presence. The disciples would soon face persecution, exile, and even death—yet the peace of Christ would anchor them through it all.

Application to Soldiers:

Every warrior understands the weight of uncertainty—whether it’s the unknown of the battlefield, the stress of leadership, or the turmoil of past experiences. Jesus’ words are a direct command to reject fear and embrace His peace, no matter the circumstances.

  • Peace in chaos – Combat zones are anything but peaceful, but Christ’s peace isn’t about external conditions—it’s about an internal confidence that God is in control.
  • Fear has no power – Fear can paralyze a soldier, but when you rest in Christ, fear loses its grip. His peace gives you the courage to press forward.
  • The world’s peace vs. Christ’s peace – The world offers temporary escapes—distractions, coping mechanisms, or momentary relief—but Jesus offers a lasting, unshakable peace that sustains even in the heat of battle.

For a soldier, this verse is a direct battle order: Do not let your heart be troubled. Stand firm. Fear has no power when you rest in Him.

ENDEX:

A soldier in combat relies on his training, his gear, and his unit, but the greatest weapon against fear is the peace of Christ. The world may rage, the enemy may advance, and the mission may be uncertain—but Jesus’ peace remains steady. Stand in that peace. Let it guide you. Let it calm your spirit.

The world offers fear, but Christ offers peace. Choose His peace. Move forward in confidence.
