January 20 – War with Confidence

Romans 8:31 – "If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Reflection: No enemy, no battle, no weapon formed against you can prosper when God is on your side. Move forward with confidence.

The book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul to the early church in Rome. In Romans 8, Paul emphasizes the security and victory believers have in Christ, even in the face of suffering, persecution, and trials.

In Romans 8:31, Paul declares:

  • "If God is for us" – This means that God is actively on the side of those who trust in Him. He is not distant but fully committed to protecting, guiding, and strengthening His people.
  • "Who can be against us?" – This is not saying that Christians will never face opposition. Instead, it means that no enemy, force, or challenge is greater than God’s power.

This verse serves as a bold declaration of confidence in God’s sovereignty—no matter what comes against believers, God’s presence and power ensure ultimate victory.

How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith

For a soldier, Romans 8:31 is a powerful assurance that God is with them in every battle—physical, emotional, and spiritual. Here’s how this verse applies:

  1. God’s Presence Gives Confidence in Battle
    • Soldiers often face danger, fear, and overwhelming odds.
    • This verse reminds them that with God on their side, no enemy is greater than His power.
  2. Victory is Determined by God, Not Circumstances
    • Military strategy, weapons, and numbers play a role in battle, but true victory comes from God.
    • No matter the challenge—whether combat, hardship, or spiritual struggle—if God is leading, the battle is already won.
  3. Overcoming Fear and Doubt
    • Many soldiers struggle with fear, doubt, and the burden of difficult decisions.
    • This verse is a reminder that nothing can stand against God’s plan—He strengthens, guides, and protects those who trust in Him.
  4. Trusting God in the Face of Opposition
    • Soldiers face many enemies—both seen and unseen (fear, loss, guilt, PTSD, uncertainty).
    • This verse is a battle cry of faith and resilience, reminding soldiers that no force is stronger than the God who fights for them.
