January 10 – The Lord’s Protection

Deuteronomy 31:6 – "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Reflection: No matter how fierce the enemy, you are never alone. The Lord marches with you into every battle.

This verse comes from Moses’ farewell speech to the people of Israel before they entered the Promised Land. Moses, their longtime leader, was now 120 years old and would not be leading them into battle. Instead, Joshua was appointed to take command and lead Israel into enemy territory, where they would face powerful nations and fierce battles.

Knowing that the people might feel fear and uncertainty, Moses encouraged them with this command from God:

  • “Be strong and courageous.” – They would face battles, but God would equip them.
  • “Do not be afraid or terrified.” – Their enemies might seem stronger, but God’s presence was greater.
  • “For the Lord your God goes with you.” – They would never fight alone.
  • “He will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Even in battle, God would remain with them.

This was a battlefield promise—God’s assurance that no matter what they faced, He would not abandon them.

How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith

For a soldier, Deuteronomy 31:6 is one of the most powerful assurances in Scripture. It reminds them that they do not fight alone—God is with them in every mission, every deployment, and every battle. Here’s how this verse applies:

  1. "Be Strong and Courageous" – Strength in the Face of Fear
    • Every soldier faces moments of fear, doubt, or uncertainty—whether in combat, leadership, or personal struggles.
    • This verse commands courage, not as a suggestion, but as a mindset of faith, knowing that God provides the strength needed to move forward.
  2. "Do Not Be Afraid or Terrified" – Overcoming Anxiety
    • Military life brings high-stakes decisions and intense pressure. Fear can paralyze, but God says: Do not be afraid.
    • This verse is a reminder to trust in God’s power rather than the size of the enemy—whether that enemy is physical, emotional, or spiritual.
  3. "The Lord Your God Goes With You" – Never Alone
    • Soldiers often experience loneliness, isolation, and loss.
    • This promise assures them that God is with them on the battlefield, in the barracks, and even in moments of personal struggle.
    • No matter where they go, God is present, leading, and protecting.
  4. "He Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You" – God's Unbreakable Promise
    • Soldiers rely on their brothers and sisters in arms, but even the best comrades may not always be there.
    • God, however, never abandons His warriors—this verse is a declaration that no matter what happens, God remains faithful.
    • Whether facing combat, injury, PTSD, or adjusting to civilian life, God is a constant presence.

ENDEX

Deuteronomy 31:6 is a soldier’s battle cry. It is a call to courage, strength, and unshakable faith. No matter the challenges, dangers, or uncertainties, God fights alongside His warriors—leading them forward, protecting them, and ensuring they are never alone.
