February 14 – Love and Obedience
John 14:15 – "If you love me, keep my
commands."
Reflection: Love is more than words—it is shown in
obedience. Serve God with loyalty, and let your actions reflect your devotion.
In John 14, Jesus is speaking to His disciples during
the Last Supper, just before His arrest and crucifixion. He is preparing
them for His departure, encouraging them to remain faithful and obedient
even when He is no longer physically with them.
In John 14:15, Jesus makes a direct statement:
- "If
you love me, keep my commands." – Love for Christ is not just a
feeling; it is proven through obedience. True discipleship
means following His teachings and living according to His will.
This verse emphasizes that obedience is the true measure
of love for God—it is not about words alone, but about action and
commitment.
How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith
For a soldier, John 14:15 is a reminder that loyalty,
duty, and obedience to orders are signs of true commitment. Here’s how this
verse applies:
- Obedience
Proves Commitment
- In
the military, a soldier’s loyalty to their country and mission is
demonstrated through their actions, not just their words.
- Likewise,
faith in Christ is proven through obedience, not just by claiming
to believe.
- Discipline
and Duty Reflect Love
- A
soldier follows orders not out of fear, but out of duty and respect
for their leader.
- Similarly,
believers follow God’s commands out of love and devotion, not
obligation.
- Love
and Obedience Go Hand in Hand
- A
soldier’s respect for their commander leads them to follow orders
without hesitation.
- Jesus
teaches that true love for Him means following His teachings, even
when it’s difficult.
- Faithfulness
in Small and Big Commands
- Soldiers
are expected to obey all orders, whether big or small, because
discipline matters.
- Jesus
asks for the same—faithfulness in all things, trusting that every
command He gives is for our good.
ENDEX
John 14:15 is a soldier’s call to faithful obedience.
Just as a warrior demonstrates loyalty through action, believers prove
their love for Christ by following His commands. True love for Jesus is
not just spoken—it is lived out daily, with discipline, faithfulness, and
commitment.
