February 6 – Follow Orders with Confidence
Joshua 6:2 – "Then the Lord said to Joshua,
‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its
fighting men.’"
Reflection: God’s commands may seem impossible, but
obedience brings victory. Trust Him, even when the battle looks unwinnable.
This verse comes from the battle of Jericho, one of
the most famous military victories in the Bible. After wandering in the
wilderness for 40 years, the Israelites, under Joshua’s leadership,
were finally entering the Promised Land. Their first major obstacle was Jericho,
a heavily fortified city with massive walls.
In Joshua 6:2, God speaks directly to Joshua:
- "See,
I have delivered Jericho into your hands." – Even before the
battle begins, God declares victory.
- "Along
with its king and its fighting men." – This wasn’t just a spiritual
promise—it was a military victory that God had already secured.
However, the battle strategy God gave them was unconventional.
Instead of attacking directly, the Israelites were commanded to march around
the city for six days and on the seventh day, shout and blow trumpets.
When they obeyed, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and they took the
city.
This story emphasizes faith, obedience, and trusting in
God’s battle plan rather than human strength.
How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith
For a soldier, Joshua 6:2 is a reminder that victory
comes from God, even when the battle seems impossible. Here’s how this
verse applies:
- Victory
is Decided by God, Not Circumstances
- The
walls of Jericho were impenetrable by human standards, yet God
had already determined the outcome.
- Soldiers
face difficult missions and overwhelming odds, but this verse
reassures them that God’s power is greater than any enemy force.
- Faith
and Obedience are Key to Success
- The
Israelites had to trust God’s plan, even when it didn’t make sense.
- Soldiers
must also trust in God’s guidance, knowing that victory isn’t
just about weapons and tactics, but also faith and obedience.
- God
Gives Strength to Overcome Any Stronghold
- Jericho’s
walls symbolized impossible barriers—but God brought them down.
- Soldiers
may face physical, emotional, or spiritual battles, but God has
the power to remove any obstacle.
- Preparation
is Necessary, But Trust in God Wins the War
- The
Israelites had to march, follow orders, and wait for God’s timing.
- Soldiers
are trained to plan, prepare, and execute missions, but ultimate
success comes from trusting that God is in control.
