February 17 – Orders from the True Commander

Matthew 28:19-20 – "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Reflection: A soldier follows the orders of his commander. Your mission is clear—go and make disciples, obeying Christ’s command.

These verses are known as The Great Commission, spoken by Jesus after His resurrection. Before ascending to heaven, Jesus gives His final orders to His disciples, instructing them to spread the gospel and make disciples of all nations.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands:

  • "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." – Faith is not meant to be kept private; believers are called to take action and share the gospel worldwide.
  • "Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." – Baptism is a sign of commitment, faith, and entry into God’s kingdom.
  • "Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." – The mission doesn’t stop at conversion; believers are called to train others in the way of Christ.
  • "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." – Jesus promises that His presence and power will remain with His followers no matter where they go.

This is a battlefield command from Jesus—a call to spiritual duty and worldwide mission.

How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith

For a soldier, Matthew 28:19-20 is a mission order, reminding them that their duty is not just to defend their country but also to spread God’s truth and make an eternal impact. Here’s how this verse applies:

  1. A Call to Action—Faith Requires Movement
    • Just as soldiers go on missions, believers are called to go and share their faith.
    • Faith is not passive—it requires action, courage, and dedication to the mission.
  2. Spiritual Leadership—Training Others Matters
    • Soldiers train new recruits, passing down knowledge and discipline.
    • Likewise, Christians are called to train and mentor others in the faith, helping them grow spiritually.
  3. Global Impact—Faith is for All Nations
    • The military often deploys soldiers to different nations, exposing them to diverse cultures and people.
    • Jesus calls His followers to reach beyond their comfort zones—wherever they go, they should be representing Christ and sharing His truth.
  4. Jesus is Always With You—Even in the Toughest Missions
    • Just as soldiers trust their training and leadership in battle, believers can trust Jesus' promise that He is with them always.
    • Whether on the battlefield, on deployment, or facing personal struggles, God’s presence never leaves His warriors.

ENDEX

Matthew 28:19-20 is a soldier’s spiritual mission briefing. Just as soldiers serve a greater purpose beyond themselves, Christians are called to a higher mission—bringing others to Christ. No matter where they are stationed, believers must be ready to carry out Jesus’ command, knowing that He is with them every step of the way. Go, lead, and make an impact for eternity.
