June 6 – Wise Choices Bring Stability
Matthew 7:24–25
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of
mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the
rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against
that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
SITREP:
When life hits hard, do you stand firm—or
fall apart? Wisdom isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about action. Apply God’s
Word to your life, and you’ll be equipped to endure the storms, no matter how
violent they get.
These verses close out Jesus’ Sermon on the
Mount—a teaching that flipped the world’s values upside down. But Jesus didn’t
end with theory. He ended with a challenge: What will you do with what
you’ve heard?
Jesus compares two builders. Same
environment. Same storms. One house stands. One collapses. The difference isn’t
what they knew—it’s what they did.
Breaking Down the Verse:
“Everyone who hears these words…” – This message is for all of us. You
don’t need rank or religious background—just a heart ready to hear.
“…and puts them into practice…” – Hearing truth is one thing. Living it out
is what separates the strong from the shaky.
“…is like a wise man who built his house on
the rock.” – Wisdom means
doing the hard work upfront. Rock is solid—but it’s not easy. Real obedience
takes intentional effort.
“The rain came down… the winds blew…” – Jesus guarantees the storm. Trouble,
trauma, trials—they’re coming. What matters is what your life is built on.
“…yet it did not fall…” – The house didn’t stand because it was
flashy or perfect. It stood because it was grounded. God’s Word, applied, is
what holds you upright.
How This Fortifies a Soldier’s Faith:
You’ve trained to survive the chaos of
combat. You know that equipment unused is dead weight. And you know that
failing to follow orders under pressure can be fatal.
The same is true in faith.
You might know Scripture—but are you living
it?
You might believe in God—but are you obeying
Him in the areas that cost you something?
When the storm comes—grief, guilt, regret,
moral injury—what’s your foundation?
Jesus is issuing orders here. Not
suggestions. Your spiritual strength depends on what you’ve built your life on.
Emotion won’t hold. Talent won’t last. But His truth—lived out daily—can take
the hit.
You’ve stood in battlefields. You’ve felt
storms most can’t imagine. You don’t need a theory—you need an anchor. This is
it.
ENDEX:
Don’t just know the Word—build on it.
Matthew 7:24–25 is your construction blueprint for endurance. In peace and in
battle, your obedience is the rock that keeps you standing. No matter the
storm—stay anchored.
AAR:
What foundation are you really building on—one that holds when the storm hits,
or one that looks solid until the floodwaters rise? Matthew 7:24–25 isn’t a
call to hear the Word—it’s a call to do something with it. So ask
yourself: are you stacking up Scripture knowledge while living like your own
boss, or are you actually applying His commands to how you move, lead, and
decide? You’ve built outposts before—you know the difference between temporary
shelter and a fortress that can take incoming. Spiritually, it’s no different.
If your foundation hasn’t been tested lately, don’t relax. Prepare. The storm’s
coming, and the only thing that’ll hold is what’s been anchored to Christ.
Digging Deep So the House Doesn’t Collapse
You’ve watched structures fall because their foundation was shallow—looked good
from the outside, but couldn’t take the hit. Matthew 7:24–25 is Jesus’ field
manual for spiritual construction. For the combat veteran, this isn’t abstract
theology—it’s a survival tactic. Building your life on His Word means you don’t
just listen in the quiet—you train for impact. When the storm hits—and
it always does—your faith needs to be more than words. It needs to be weather-tested.
Jesus doesn’t promise storm-free living. He promises you can stand through it
if your obedience runs deep. So don’t just carry the blueprint. Build with it.
Drive every nail of your life into His Word, and when the skies rip open—you
won’t move.
