March 18 – God’s Promises Never Fail
Numbers 23:19 – "God is not human, that he
should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak
and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?"
Reflection: When you feel uncertain, remember that
God’s promises are always true. Trust in His unchanging word.
This verse comes from the story of Balaam, a prophet
summoned by King Balak of Moab to curse Israel. Balak feared the
Israelites and wanted to weaken them spiritually before engaging in battle.
However, instead of cursing Israel, Balaam was compelled by God to bless
them instead.
In Numbers 23:19, Balaam declares this truth about
God:
- "God
is not human, that He should lie." – Unlike people, God is
completely truthful and trustworthy.
- "Not
a human being, that He should change His mind." – While humans
are unpredictable and inconsistent, God is steadfast and
reliable.
- "Does
He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?" –
God’s words always come to pass, and His promises never fail.
This verse affirms that God is unchanging, faithful, and
trustworthy—His promises are never broken.
How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith
For a soldier, Numbers 23:19 is a reassurance that
God is reliable, constant, and never fails to keep His word. Here’s how
this verse applies:
- God’s
Promises are More Reliable Than Any Human Strategy
- In
battle, soldiers depend on intelligence, strategies, and leadership,
but even the best plans can fail.
- This
verse reminds them that God’s word never fails—His promises are
unshakable, even in uncertain times.
- Trust
in God’s Unchanging Nature
- Soldiers
must trust their commanders, but even leaders can make mistakes
or change decisions.
- Unlike
people, God does not lie, change His mind, or fail—He remains the
same in every situation.
- Faith
Overcomes Uncertainty
- Military
life is full of unknowns—deployment, battle, and unexpected situations.
- This
verse reassures soldiers that God’s promises stand firm, even when the
future is uncertain.
- God
Always Fulfills What He Says
- Just
as soldiers rely on their training and preparation, they must also
rely on God’s faithfulness.
- If God
has spoken a promise, He will bring it to completion—His word
is as sure as a well-executed mission.
ENDEX
Numbers 23:19 is a soldier’s assurance that God is always
faithful to His word. Just as warriors trust their orders and training,
they must also trust in God’s promises, which never fail. When facing
uncertainty, fear, or doubt, remember that God is unchanging, and His word is
the strongest foundation a soldier can stand on.
