February 18 – Faith That Moves Mountains

Matthew 17:20 – "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Reflection: Even the smallest faith can bring great victories. Believe in God’s power, and no obstacle will stand in your way.

In Matthew 17, Jesus’ disciples struggled to cast out a demon from a boy. When they asked Jesus why they had failed, He told them it was because of their lack of faith. He then gave them this powerful truth:

  • "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed." – The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, but when planted, it grows into a strong tree. Jesus is saying that even a tiny amount of genuine faith has great power.
  • "You can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move." – Mountains symbolize huge obstacles and challenges. Jesus is teaching that faith in God makes the impossible possible.
  • "Nothing will be impossible for you." – This doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want, but that when we align with God’s will, His power works through us to overcome any obstacle.

Jesus was emphasizing that faith is not about size—it’s about trust in God’s power.

How This Applies to a Soldier’s Faith

For a soldier, Matthew 17:20 is a reminder that faith—no matter how small—can overcome any challenge, whether in battle or in life. Here’s how this verse applies:

  1. Small Faith Can Lead to Great Victories
    • Just as a tiny seed grows into a mighty tree, even a small amount of faith can lead to great strength, courage, and victory.
    • Soldiers often face overwhelming situations, but this verse teaches that trust in God brings unexpected breakthroughs.
  2. Faith Overcomes Obstacles
    • Mountains represent barriers, fears, and impossible missions.
    • Soldiers know what it’s like to face overwhelming odds, but faith in God’s power can remove any obstacle, seen or unseen.
  3. Nothing is Impossible with God
    • Soldiers are trained to push beyond limits, but true strength comes from trusting in God’s power, not just their own abilities.
    • Whether in combat, personal struggles, or spiritual battles, God provides a way through.
  4. Faith Must Be Active and Growing
    • A seed must be planted, watered, and nurtured to grow.
    • Soldiers must exercise their faith daily—through prayer, trust, and obedience—to develop unshakable confidence in God.

ENDEX

Just as soldiers train and prepare for battle, they must also build their faith, trusting that God can move mountains and lead them to victory.
